If you kill the thread and immediately restart it, the socket may be held 
in TIME_WAIT status or something, preventing you from re-binding to it 
immediately.  You gotta wait.  Run 'netstat -na | grep ^tcp' and look for 
port 23 to see if it is still bound.

(Anybody know how to prevent this from happening, or how to release the 
port immediately?)
