Subj : Re: Shell Suggestion To : Digital Man From : Time Warrior Date : Wed Oct 05 2005 01:12 pm From Newsgroup: alt.bbs.synchronet To: Digital Man Rob, As per my shell / dir structure change suggestion -- for pre-login and new user application stuff to be in effect as well, a config that asks what shells (or not) would be in the pre-login would be feasable. Wouldn't be the first time a BBS has asked for that sort of input from the user. This is mainly taking Mweeby into concideration for this. I'm sure there are alot of Blind Users who would *love* BBS's if they were more complient to their condition. I am also more than happy to help Mweeby work on a "Blind User Shell" to contribute to Synchronet. So the first thing you'd see upon connect would be: Please select shell: (1) Synchronet Classic (2) Renegade (3) Shell for Blind Users Why these 3 for default? Because as for most of us not being blind, Synchronet Classic and Renegade seem to be the two most popular / easiest to use of the options. Option 3 of course allows Blind Users to immediately avoid the havoc that extended ASCII and ANSI raise on their text-to-speech readers. The blind user mode would also exclude new user questions such as "Does your terminal support color?" and "Does your terminal support ANSI / ASCII?" where as for other shells it WOULD ask that. It could also auto-disable lightbar, skip any implimented "matrix logins" and revert to "Is this correct? (Y/n):" prompts for Blind Users. I must say "chatting" with Mweeby was a rather cool experience and the way his computer allows him to be both a Sysop and a User is pretty impressive. So again, please concider my suggestion.
