Not to mention crap like Lindows. Unfortunately, I must agree Ralph. Even among blind Linux users there are some rather fearse religious wars over this distro VS that distro, which is mor adapted for speech use and which isn't or which one, because of it's mods is further away from canonical Linux... and on and on and on. I think most people, that is people who aren't programmers, or who don't work around computers for a living, want something that's actually unified, but I think there are people in the Linux community who are afraid of unification because they fear that some corporate entity will come in, buy up all the licenses and rights, and proudly announce "this is Linux." Then we'd be right back to the closed proprietary Micro$shaft model. I enjoy learning and playing around with Linux, and I used to love the idea that maybe if I struggled hard enough I could become proficient enough in Linux where I could blow away my windows partition entirely, but it ain't gonna happen any time soon. I think this is mostly because I'm not the fastest learner in the world, and because Linux documentation, though plentiful, varies greatly in presentation and approach. I suspect I'll probably keep the bbs running on Windows, because it's all there, and it all works. --- þ Synchronet þ Greenwood, Lake Placid, NY, telnet://greenwoo.synchro.net .
