Depends on the mail server you're relaying through. Most ISPs will relay mail
for their users with no authentication (provided you're connected with one of
their IP addresses).

If you're relaying through a 3rd party server (not your ISP), then they'll
probably require authentication before relaying. Which authentcation type they
support is determined by the SMTP mail server software they run and how they
have it configured (so ask them in that case).
