This appears to be an older post that you seem to have just now gotten around to, however as for your explanation it seems like it's worse than I thought. I've explained this before but i'll try again using a slightly different stratagy and mode of communication. Mr. Melkor, like most people, has a job. His job happens to be a full day of blue collar work. White collar of course is what you and I do. Computer Tech. Though Mr. Melkor is very knowledgable in computers, his blue collar job, meaning alot of physical labor (being outside busting his ass as opposed to inside at a keyboard and mouse) also means that when he gets home at 6PM CST after working all day he tends to be very tired and wishes to relax, as most people would regardless of blue or white collar careers. Now, throw in family and social life along with adult responcibility and you have what we call a time deficit. Supposedly you are 25. I happen to be 27. In theory, we are both supposedly adults. Now me knowing that I am more mature than not (although I do have my moments hehehe :-) and looking at things from my point of view... a so-called adult having a pissy fit because someone downloaded his software and did not change the default ansi and configs quick enough to his liking appears to be incredibly juvanile and retarded, especially seeing as the facts of work, life, etc... should not have to be explained to another adult until they are brain damaged, retarded or just completely clueless. This type of thing and other similar stupidity within the scene (however thankfully this type of thing doesn't happen nearly as frequently as it did back in the day -- your type of elite attitude is becoming extinct fast, thankfully) is the online equivelent of two second graders getting into a fist fight because they can not come to a resolve over the "my dog can kick your dogs ass" arguement. Now, for two ignorant little kids, this can be somewhat understandable. However for a so-called knowledgable adult to get hot and bothered over this shit is more pathetic. Also know -- just in case you did not -- is that Melkor only rescently has gotten his system back online. He had some downtime on his BBS computer because Windows decided to explode on him and his Windows Disk was scratched so he had to aquire another copy to compensate which took him awhile. Lastly also note that negetivity only hurts the person feeling it, not the person it's directed towards. You claim you got pretty pissed. Well guess what happened as a result of you getting pretty pissed? All you accomplished is: - emotionally inconveneincing yourself - giving people like myself and others some temporary amusement - ruining your online reputation (and trust me, yours is alot worse than mine also in and of the fact that i can prove i haven't been a hostile idiot for years and you still ARE at the very least, hostile). - allowing people like myself to know you have come back into the scene before i even could do a message scan when a fellow sysop IM's me with "hey, looks like we've got a new moron in alt.bbs*.*" - the fact that, even to your own admission of being a misfit via email, you had to change your alias because you're reputation proceeds you, Mr. Jas Hud. I used to be as hostile as you are and trust me its not worth it. I've learned that most things in life are NOT worth getting upset about. Meklor isn't an idiot or a lamer and despite what your ego tells you, neither am I. However as for the lamers that do exist out there, not to mention the "stock syndrome problem" and other things that might otherwise want to make old skoolers such as ourselves bang our heads against the walls -- please realize these issues have always existed and this is a much smaller scene than it used to be -- so the problem only appears bigger when really theres just a shortage of Sysops. The majority of people, for example, have always run stock or lame PD BBS's. Look at when Renegade was in its prime back in the early to mid 1990's. I'd have to say that 19 out of 20 boards were stock and royally sucked. However, seeing as there were litterally MILLIONS of BBS's world wide back in those days -- that still left for THOUSANDS of BBS's that were very well setup and modded. Also keep in mind there is a learning proccess. When I first jumped into the scene at age 16, my BBS was as lame and default as the rest. Not knowing any ansi artists yet and having to make my best tries with thedraw, the first incarnations of my home brew menus were pretty crappy. One of the new teenage Sysops in the current scene has been reading all of our alt.bbs disccusions and IM'd me yesterday with "It's idiots like this guy that is the reason my BBS hasn't gone public yet -- I want to make sure it's well customized so I don't take flack from lusers like him. Yours is well customized and he's still a big enough moron to attack you when you defend others." So if you think your attitude is accomplishing anything, trust me, it's not. If your goal really is to help people then heres what I would suggest. If you are an ansi artist (this has yet to be confirmed or denied) offer to draw for people like Melkor instead of bitching at them and making lame threats. If people are having trouble modding, offer assistance that doesn't have the flames attatched. If you think you can do better with Synchweb, release Synchweb mod packs. I've already released quite a few (http://www.synchsupport.net). Get active in echomail networks with tech support as opposed to flames. You seem book smart, simply not people smart. Get people smart and you'll be a valuable asset to the scene instead of an asshole to be seen. lol -- .---------------------------------------------------------------. | [TiME WaRRiOR] aka [Dave Kelso] AIM: Twar782 | +o Malkavia BBS | | www : synchsupport.net - malkaviabbs.com - xpresit.net | | www$: josephsjewelersonline.com - preferedinsurance.com | | @: time.warrior@malkaviabbs. com | \______________________________________________________________/ --- Synchronet 3.12a-Win32 NewsLink 1.76 * Malkavia - Chicago, IL - telnet://malkaviabbs.com --- Synchronet 3.13b-Win32 NewsLink 1.83 .
