If the text doesn't display correctly, save the attachment to disk, and then open it using a viewer that can display the original character set. -+- Our mail at work comes through Exchange 5.5 and has some filters for Spam, but AFAIK it doesn't change the message. I don't get this in any other mail program but Outlook (full Outlook , not OE).
