Yes, it's working at least for now! I added port 23 using (Westell 2200 menu obtained at 162.168.1.1) Configuration: Service configuration: Define custom service: Port forwarding. Here there are two radio buttons: The one activated now is labeled "Port forwarding range of ports". The other button is to specify a trigger port, whereby the port is enabled only after receiving specific outbound traffic. The next screen enables us to enter a range of ports. I just put in 23. Protocol = TCP (radio button) After much head scratching, this is the only change I made to the configuration of the modem and it was apparently the right thing. I was expecting more trouble. Beginner's luck, no doubt. I'll probably need to check in later with more questions, but for now I'm a happy camper! MY ONLY QUESTION: That "trigger port" stuff above (which I didn't select). Should I select it? Is it safer? Can Synchronet support this feature (e.g. by sending some necessary data for a trigger when it starts up)? BTW, the Westell 2200 manual is available as a PDF file at http://www.westell.com/pages/model2200/userguide/userguide.jsp I got the Verizon version, of course. Thanks again, everyone, for your encouragement! I was afraid for awhile that the powers-that-be were arrayed against me. Now for lotsa configuration of the BBS! > To: Paul Emmons >-=> Paul Emmons wrote to alt.bbs.synchronet <=- > > PE> From Newsgroup: alt.bbs.synchronet > > PE> On Sat, 17 Sep 2005 01:02:20 GMT, "Sniper" > PE> wrote: > > PE> Thanks for offering to help. > > PE> I don't have a router.
