Perhaps I missunderstood his idea, but if all I had was > a Linux box, I could probably do most of the internet except for > www. You can even do text based WWW (i wouldn't want to because if I wanna go the route of text, I have telnet for that! :-) and I'll explain how. Edit leftnav.inc and kill the Java Navigation and make regular text links. Everything the Java Nav links to is a valid url. So just make note of those url's and do for example: Sign Up To make this still look good in graphical mode, I'd suggest using a CSS for that so when you over over the link it changes color, or something similar as to be more creative than just a plain jane link. I personally hate web posting. I prefer telnet. However, for chumming new users that aren't familar with telnet, it's nice. It's also nice for a quick copy / paste reference if your in a GUI mail reader or an instant messenger and happen to already know which message area and aproximate message number you're looking for. As for the rest, it's also good for what telnet can't do. You can have web games, website links and all sorts of stuff that wouldn't go over well under telnet as a part of your BBS. Seeing as Synchronet is a *real* BBS and not some glorified web script, having a web interface gives it an incredible advantage for things it does now and things it can be made to do in the future. With an EXE backing ssjs as opposed to just a simple web script on a host, the sky is the limit, IMHO. -- .---------------------------------------------------------------. | [TiME WaRRiOR] aka [Dave Kelso] AIM: Twar782 | +o Malkavia BBS | | www : synchsupport.net - malkaviabbs.com - xpresit.net | | www$: josephsjewelersonline.com - preferedinsurance.com | | @: time.warrior@malkaviabbs. com | \______________________________________________________________/ --- Synchronet 3.12a-Win32 NewsLink 1.76 * Malkavia - Chicago, IL - telnet://malkaviabbs.com --- Synchronet 3.13a-Win32 NewsLink 1.83 .
