The problem isn't puttin > the quotes around it and using spaces, the problem is that it's 20 chars to > type instead of 12. Yes, but then your forcing people to use the web interface and again eliminating choice. Also, aside from people getting pissed at that, you'll have people who dispite the fact that 00index is sitting right there, they still won't click on it, know its there, what its for or even be paying much attention to anything other than the directory list. How does this differ from what SEXYZ can already to? SEXYZ supports long filenames, does it not? Why didn't Rob just make a "stable zmodem" and still keep it as short filenames? Why allow long filenames at all? (under your concept, these are the questions). > Having a "choice" of directory layouts is even more insane... it means that > some systems would use "xtrn" and others would use "External Programs" as th > dir name. Helping someone out would be harder. Then why not allow the USER to choose? Pictute this: Your file area would be c:\bbsfiles\whatever\ Internal Code: WHATEVR Long Description: The Whatever Files In the account config, have an option that says: Use Long Name for FTP Listing? (Y/N): That way, you can answer "no" because you personally don't want to deal with that. Someone else who does wish to however, can answer "yes" to that question. Like I said. Choice. A feature doesn't *have* to be a pain in the ass. -- .---------------------------------------------------------------. | [TiME WaRRiOR] aka [Dave Kelso] AIM: Twar782 | +o Malkavia BBS | | www : synchsupport.net - malkaviabbs.com - xpresit.net | | www$: josephsjewelersonline.com - preferedinsurance.com | | @: time.warrior@malkaviabbs. com | \______________________________________________________________/ --- Synchronet 3.12a-Win32 NewsLink 1.76 * Malkavia - Chicago, IL - telnet://malkaviabbs.com --- Synchronet 3.13a-Win32 NewsLink 1.83 .
