The biggest problem Microsoft has with it's new OS offerings (like XP) is 
that people do not want to replace older versions of Windows.  Microsoft 
has had years of experience at playing the OS off against the application. 
Problems with your app?  Get the new version.  New app won't run on your 
OS?  Get the new version.  They leapfrog their customers from application 
upgrade to OS upgrade to application upgrade...  Deliberately introducing 
new features that break backward compatability is just SOP for them.
