I'm running FC3 myself, but I run sbbs as root (being a Windows user, I'm use to this risk). Anyway, perhaps Deuce can add some insight. At this point, all I can personally suggest is either running an older (e.g. more "stable") Linux distro or simply run sbbs as root.
