Telgate is an internal synchronet function that allows users to telnet from 
one BBS to another. Tel(net)gate(way).

Just as "Synchweb" is short for "Synchronet Web Interface" telnet is short 
for "Telet Gateway".

I'm presuming the "mudgate" in question is Rlogin.
