Subj : SMTP server name To : All From : WxMan Date : Mon Jun 20 2005 08:21 am Hi folks. I'm "THIS" close to getting my Synchronet system online, and have hit a snag (actually two, one big, the other small). I'm sure I can get the answers here. I'll try to give as much info as I can... The OS for the BBS is Redhat Linux 8.0. I have downloaded and installed/configured Synchronet and have nearly all services responding through a Wingate 3.x firewall. Ports are mapped accordingly on the fireall and communications SEEM to be working okay. First of all, the problem is a mis-named SMTP server parameter on SBBS. When the sendmail service runs, it is attempting to send mail to a server that is not accessible. I need to know where to find the name of the SMTP server in the Synchronet configuration and change it. I've looked in the .INI files in the /SBBS/CTRL directory, and at all the options available when running the configuration utility (SCFG? can't remember and I'm not at that machine now). I simply cannot find anything for changing the name of the SMTP server that the BBS looks for. I need to route outbound e-mail to port 25 of my proxy machine. In all my other Linux and Mac machines, I simply point SMTP services to 192.168.0.1 port 25 and they go to town. This is what I want to so with SBBS. I THOUGHT that making the Wingate machine my "relay mail" server would do it, but it doesn't. I know that it's there, and right in front of me, but I simply can't find it. Secondly, is there a user editor utility for use at the Linux console? If I can find it, then I can change my password on my account, thereby letting me log into my own BBS. You see.. I attempted to make a user on the BBS for my use as SysOp. And now I can't log in because Synchronet can't mail my password to me! heh heh.. I know, what a dummy, but hey. It's my first week with a new program. I'm trying to convert from Searchlight, and so far I'm liking Synchronet a WHOLE lot better. Now if I could only log in! Anyway, thanks for listening, and if you need any more info, I'll provide what I can. I'll check back here, and I'm haunting the Vertraun IRC server as I write. Also, if anyone desires to repond via e-mail, I'm at rsirois@stny.rr.com. Thanks again folks! WxMan .
