I don't think yeah, i did. > ever saw you talk down about sync... I tend to defend sync a lot as well, a i don't because there is no reason to. i'm usually the one pointing out what is good about synchronet to people who are die-hard mystic junkies. advocacy for a bbs software is goofy but i can understand their bias based on their level of expertise. synchronet is completely different than most 'scene' softwares. by this i am not implying a scene board could not be running synchronet on the contrary several awesome boards run it and do so with great success/elegance. > lot of people consider anything beyond editing an ansi file, or a menu edito > to be "too" hard to modify though. the really good mystic boards to about a > much coding as any sync board does as far as modding goes... imo doors are a yea. i think the main resistance is that of learning something *completely* new and fighting to tread water in the uncharted seas is always a difficult thing to do. really even expert users who are ex-sysops of existing boards and have run several other softwares will find that synchronet is a challenge to really mod well, but so is any board if you want to be fair, as you say. > bit easier under sync, and the features are nice, but if a person wants main > telnet with easier menu/ansi edits, then mystic may be a better choice, I > don't know enough about elebbs to have any input there though... i think the 'forum' way of doing things has really impacted the existing sysops who have run 'forum'-like boards like you mention the menu editing and strings and so on. all common elements to those softwares. it's funny that you never hear synchronet sysops switching to other softwares though isn't it? :) you never heard "mystic is so different than synchronet" for example, because synch sysops are probably happy/content/satisfied/overjoyed with their software and it's awesome support with frequent updates and constant evolution. that is one thing synch has always had over the competition -- active evolution and progress... plus with dudes like you and haakon and so on the possibilities are limitless since you are so skilled with the software you could do anything you wanted to do probably. what i'm really looking forward to is seeing the new web stuff integrated with messaging and stuff via the web like a forum (or some way to get to it via javascript which i have seen looks to be possible from reading the documentation).. to have communication on all fronts maintain consistent ease of publication would be a dream come true for me. - grymmjack .
