Well, ANSI animation *never* worked the way the original artist intended except
in the VERY rare case 9I only ever saw it once) where a separate file was
created for every speed.  I don't think there has ever been a time when at
least three different connect speeds wern't common on any BBS.  Added to the
fact that MNP and HST were common and resulted in higher effective
throughput... and the fact that you could end up falling back to odd bps rate
(16800, 21600 etc) always made it kludgy at best.
