Subj : Market Action To : All From : Paul Rogers Date : Thu Sep 09 2004 06:45 pm

The market was up in the morning, underwater around noon, and up again
into late afternoon, sliding into the close. However, the range was
pretty subdued. Volume wasn't, up +13% above average. Investors were
initially enthusiastic when Unemployment Claims fell to 319,000, but
then they found out the past couple weeks were inflated by Hurricane
Charlie, and all those claims had been made. Import prices, largely as
a result of oil, have been rising according to data released today, and
that's bad news. So as the Beige Book showed, the economy remains a
little rocky, some good, some bad.

Timing Signals: I don't use or recommend timing signals, but they're
fun to watch. If I did though, well, I might use something like this.
(Be warned!! It tends to whipsaw around signal points!)

Last Signal: BUY Date: 08/24/04 S&P: 1096
