Volume fell even lower today, -35% below average. But perhaps the GOP
convention this week provides an explanation--the Street is getting out
of town! Prices also fell about 10pts, presumably on some discouraging
economic news--consumer spending increased but growth in consumer income
didn't come up to expectations.
While not much is happening this summer, except prices continuously
racheting down, I think you ought to prepare for the results of the
election. Don't presume one candidate or the other will win. Don't
presume the Street will react to the winner the same way you will. Do
assume your own biases will make working out a strategy more difficult.
So I think you should do your best to dismiss your biases, and work out
two strategies that play either side of the street. Your strategies
should also be prepared to handle extreme short-term volatility, such as
we've seen during recent FOMC announcements. You should know which
stocks can/should be sold on a dime and at what price! Whether you put
protective stops inplace is up to you, but if not have the numbers on
the tip of your tongue and the determination to carry through. You
should know which you'd buy in a heartbeat, and at what prices.
When you can forsee a time when the market may go crazy for a moment, be
prepared for gain, not pain! And be prepared for getting it all wrong.
Always protect yourself!

Timing Signals: I don't use or recommend timing signals, but they're
fun to watch. If I did though, well, I might use something like this.
(Be warned!! It tends to whipsaw around signal points!)
