Subj : Market Action To : All From : Paul Rogers Date : Wed Dec 31 2003 05:15 pm
OK, that's a wrap. Look for my review on my website in a few days, but
like Satchel Paige said, "Don't look back." I think that describes a
lot about this year's market. Too many investors were looking over
their shoulder, seeing tracks of the Bear or the Bull.
It's time to get over all that. We need to take the attitude that what
the market is going to do in 2004, it's going to do all on its own.
It's got lots of challenges, give it that! The deficit. Consumer
confidence. Unemployment. Overcommitment abroad. This is an election
year, and both sides are going to be pandering to their constituencies,
and everybody else they think they can convince. Talk radio's going to
go off the deep end.
On the other hand, if you're still investing you're to be congratulated!
Take a bow. Most fair-weather "investors" have been scared out of
investing. But one thing you must do is capitalize your experiences!
There's a whole generation of investors who don't have the experience of
going through this sort of Bear Market, still standing. We know it's
important to know when and how to buy stocks, but we also now have the
experience what can happen when we don't know when and how to SELL
stocks! We know we have to have some tactic to protect ourselves, like
my 7% Solution. It's back to an old hobby horse of mine, strategy and
tactics. We've seen both sides of the market now. Our New Year's
Resolution should be a realistic assessment of our strategy and tactics.
We need to evaluate our successes and failures. If it ain't broke,
don't fix it. But if it didn't work for us, we need to know why, and
how to fix it.
It's a new day in the morning. And a new year. Happy New Year!

Timing Signals: I don't use or recommend timing signals, but they're
fun to watch. If I did though, well, I might use something like this.
(Be warned!! It tends to whipsaw around signal points!)
Last Signal: BUY Date: 11/24/03 S&P: 1052
