Subj : Market Action To : All From : Paul Rogers Date : Tue Oct 14 2003 07:36 pm

This morning the market sold off with some enthusiasm at the open, and
stayed modestly lower most of the day. About 1:30 it suddenly jumped up
on a spike in volume, and continued into the close with moderate
enthusiasm as compared with the morning session. In the end, volume was
higher than yesterday's holiday, but still -8% below average. This is
just reaction to the news.

As the market has moved above last month's 1040 peak, it has done so on
lower than average volume, and a stalled Oscillator. That's not
positive. I've been hoping for a nice Santa Claus rally beginning next
month, but I hope this isn't it--this isn't starting off with a solid
footing.

I can't predict next year, but I wouldn't be at all surprized to see the
market volatile and reacting to all the campaigning. Frankly, I think
this administration better hope they find Saddam, because on jobs and
the economy I don't think most Americans are very happy and we know what
that means. Who was it who said, "are you better off now than you were
four years ago?" A lot of Americans would answer, "definitely not." So
next year I'd be conservative in my investing.

Timing Signals: I don't use or recommend timing signals, but they're
fun to watch. If I did though, well, I might use something like this.
(Be warned!! It tends to whipsaw around signal points!)

Last Signal: Buy Date: 10/01/03 S&P: 1018
