Subj : Market Action To : All From : Paul Rogers Date : Thu Aug 14 2003 09:34 pm
The East Coast blackout struck at 4:40, just after the market closed.
It's not known yet of the Street will be up and running in the morning.
I think there should be a lesson there for those unwilling to spend
money, public and otherwise, that they don't have as much choice in the
matter as they think they do. I've talked before about the fragility
we've built into, and allowed to degrade in our public infrastructure.
There are some people who do not wish us well that have taken notice.
Too bad some of our tightwad representatives won't.
As the market closed, prices were up a bit, but not significantly.
Volume was still well below average, -12%.
In my opinion if you're an active investor buying stocks, you've got
until the leaves start turning to gather your "stake" and get your
shopping list buffed-up--and I don't mean you can wait till the last
minute! You need to be watching how your prospects behave through the
summer. If they don't hold up well, scratch them off your list!
In the technical charts prices have been bumping into this short-term
Declining-Tops resistance line, but I don't put much faith in it. In
general we're moving sideways fading slightly, any little blips aren't
going to excite me.

Timing Signals: I don't use or recommend timing signals, but they're
fun to watch. If I did though, well, I might use something like this.
(Be warned!! It tends to whipsaw around signal points!)
Last Signal: BUY Date: 08/12/03 S&P: 990
