Subj : Arena Football League News To : All From : Ed Grinnell Date : Wed Nov 22 2000 08:11 am * Crossposted in SPORTS * Crossposted in CFL * Crossposted in NFL The reason for crossposting to the CFL is because of the new Toronto franchise (Which *may* be a prelude to a couple of af2 franchises) and because the NFL has a vested interest in the Arena League (They currently own 49% of the league and will own nearly all of it in a few years). News: The Arena Football League, the main arena league, has announced the addition of two new teams, the Detroit Fury and the Chicago Rush, plus the move of three teams: the Iowa Barnstormers become the New York Dragons, the Albany Firebirds become the Indiana Firebirds and the New England Sea Wolves become the Toronto Phantoms. I'm frankly surprised by the moves of Iowa and Albany but what the heck, the league is looking for new markets and to move into the big cities. P.S. Because of problems with my ISP, I am unable to upload the changes to my web site so the changes aren't reflected. Also, Arena Football2 has acquired the assets/teams of the IFL and they will be integrating approximately 21 teams before the 2001 season. Several of the IFL teams have hugh followings so it is a great acquisition for the AFL's "minor" league and gives them a much better base to build from. More news about all the teams that are playing for AF2 as soon as I can confirm them all. --- TrekEd 1.00 * Origin: is the best freshman I've ever seen - Vitale (1:170/1701) .
