Subj : Olympics To : Kyle Miller From : Ed Grinnell Date : Tue Oct 10 2000 06:48 am Kyle Miller was thrown for a loss after he said: KM> The other day I overheard some people arguing over a topic which KM> seems to be very popular these days: the Olympics. The point they were KM> arguing was: Is it worth it to train so rigorously, to dedicate years of KM> your life, in order to go the Olympics and try for a medal? Or is it a KM> waste of your time? Those people who were arguing that it was the waste of their time are probably saying the same thing about doing their jobs. Tom Landry always considered the season worth the effort. It didn't matter if you won or lost but that you made the effort. If Olympians felt that it was all about winning or losing, they'd probably not even bother because the "little guys" don't stand much of a chance against the "big boys." Whether they come from a small country or not, the competitors work as hard as they do because they know that it COULD happen and they COULD win. Almost always, more countries DON'T win medals than win but I can guarantee you that NONE of THOSE competitors feel that their efforts are a waste of time. A trip here, a push there and they'd have won medals like others did. --- TrekEd 1.00 * Origin: Does your Big Unit have a Big Hurt? (1:170/1701) .
