Subj : 7\02 Echo Rules - Please To : All From : Charles Radley Date : Fri Jul 07 2000 11:52 pm * Originally in: Sb-Questions * Originally on: 07-02-00 23:15 * Originally by: Dan Dubrick Echo Rules Of Conduct For SB-QUESTIONS. SpaceBase(tm)'s Current Space News Discussion and Q & A Echo o In line with the policy ESA, and other world space agencies regarding space exploration documentation and written and spoken communications, ALL ENTRIES in these echoes are to be in the ENGLISH language. RULES -= OPEN TO ALL! =- o No Handles! REAL NAMES are required for SpaceBase(tm) & it's echoes. o ON TOPIC: Questions and Answers or comments on Current Space Exploration news and events read about in the following Echoes (except for Un-Authorized &/or Off Topic messages)... SB-NASA_NEWS SB-NASA_TECH SB-E/N/L SB-WORLD_NWS o OFF TOPIC AND FORBIDDEN!: Unauthorized news posts, political debate, flaming, UFO's, Trekkies, Science Fiction, Skeptics, Astronomy, Physics, BBS ad's, echomail reception problems, speculative "what if's", Religion and basically ANYTHING NOT Related to current space news are OFF TOPIC! o IF you are not sure, please use Routed Netmail and send the question to the Moderator. Only the Moderator may declare something ON or OFF TOPIC or grant exceptions to the Rules. o NO obscene language or swearing in any language, flaming, character assassination, racial slurrs, cultural or religious intolerance allowed.! Make sense ??? etc. o Don't be easily annoyed and don't be excessively annoying! This is a non-political information feed. o Please do not answer OFF TOPIC messages and Never use the echo to reply to inappropriate messages. If you feel a message is inappropriate, simply take a deep breath and ignore it. It'll go away. And if it doesn't, LET THE MODERATOR HANDLE THE PROBLEM. If you respond over the echo, many Sysops will incur financial expense for your violation. If you feel particularly strong about a specific posting, YOU assume financial responsibility by sending the Moderator private netmail, or by taking your beef off-echo and send Routed NetMail to the person directly. Please leave the other participants out of it, especially the Sysops who foot the bills. o If a TOPIC COP is necessary leave it to the Moderator or the Assistants. o Practice Tollerance with those who do not know or ask what seem to be "dumb" questions. The whole purpose of SpaceBase is to educate through information exchange. o Avoid entering private or local-interest messages -- Messages which cannot interest other conference participants are inappropriate and should be sent via NetMail. Contact your SysOp (in the General Msg Area or a special area for messages to/from the SysOp, not in this Echo) for information on that board's NetMail policy. o Do not initiate any commercial advertisements or BBS ads -- Such postings are inappropriate. Note, however, that this does not forbid messages about specific products, services, or BBS phone numbers in direct response to request for information. o Keep your quotes to a minimum. People read this echo regularly; you don't always need to quote and explain the obvious. o If you have a complaint or comment regarding the running of the echo, please use Routed Netmail and do not go OFF TOPIC in the echo. Compliments are always welcome! o Leave Moderating to the Moderator. Arguing with the Moderator or arguing any Moderator ruling is grounds for cutting of access. o Only one warning may be given. o Serious infractions may have their access cut without warning. o COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL: The posting of copyrighted material without the express permission of the copyright holder may violate any "fair-use" doctrine. Quoting a passage is acceptable, especially if other sources are quoted as well. (That's research.). Posting a single article verbatim without permission is not acceptable. (That creeps into the realm of plagiarism.) Any notice that it has been posted without permission doesn't protect any BBS carrying this echo from possible prosecution. Sysops, if you feel uncomfortable about messages containing copyrighted material, it is acceptable to delete them from your board. On occasion, the Moderator will place long distance calls to the copyright holder to verify permission. o SYSOP RESPONSIBILITY: Sysops who receive ANY of SpaceBase[tm]'s 8 SB- prefixed echoes OR the SPACE Echo, are responsible for all messages which enter into any of these echoes from their systems. This includes messages from users of the system and any points. o Sysops are also responsible for ensuring that the 4 Read Only space news echoes are set up so as to allow NO Posting into those 4 echoes. o (Sysops, please do not allow your users to post inappropriate or abusive messages in the 4 public echoes.) o NONCOMPLIANCE: If you cannot abide by and comply with the rules, your sysop will be requested to cut your access to these echoes. If inappropriate posting continues then you will endanger the feed of the BBS you are participating from, as we will be forced to protect the integrety of these echoes by asking the system(s) uproute to disconnect your BBS's SB- prefixed echo feed. o ORIGIN LINES & NETWORK ADDRESS: All messages must have a FidoNet compatible Origin line which should contain the BBS's name. In addition, it is requested that the Origin line contain your city and country. That way folks around the world will know where your BBS is participating in this international service from. The ORIGIN line must end with a legal (i.e., listed in a nodelist) Net/node address. If the Net/node is not a FidoNet number, then the network (AlterNet, FamilyNet, EggNet etc.) should be identified in the Origin line text so NetMail replies can be properly routed. In addition, could you please put post these rules so that your users can read them BEFORE they begin participation in this conference. Finally, if you have been contacted by the Moderator or a designated Assistant Moderator (as listed below the Rules of each echo concerned) regarding use or abuse of any "SB-" Prefixed Echo or the SPACE Echo from your board, could you please respond promptly via netmail to 1:153/719 if requested to do so. o Welcome to the SpaceBase(tm) Family of Echos.
