The internationaal FIDONET SPACE Echo has been very quiet for
several months, suddenly it is alive again !

Hi, I live near the city of Portland, in the state of Oregon, in
the north west part of the USA.

Happy Independence Day !  July 4th is a holiday for most people here,
so I have some time to write some replies in the SPACE echo.

 It was certainly a historically important moment.  I think it gave
 people the first real hope that it might be possible to end the cold
 war in a peaceful manner.   It is a pity that it took about another
 15 years before a long term peaceful cooperation became possible.
