Subj : double sighting!! To : all From : mark lewis Date : Sun Dec 31 2000 10:25 am * Crossposted to SB-SAT_TRACK * Crossposted to ASTRONET this evening, 31 Dec 2000, at about 17:50, my father and i got a double treat! we're located at Lat 35.5296, Lon -79.3448, El 250-300 meters (according to a GPS unit we used a few weeks back to verify "dead reckoning" settings)... the sky was cloudless and clear... local temps about 35-40degrees fahrenheit... the double sighting?? both MIR and ISS passed directly (+/- 5degrees) overhead of our location... first MIR came in from the southwest and passed on the western side and out to the eastnortheast... then about 15 seconds later, we spotted ISS on it's track from the northeast, across the western side and out to the southsoutheast... both were about as bright as saturn... maybe a bit brighter... don't know how to determine the actual magnitude but there they were... very very exciting and enjoyable! we saw ISS two days ago at about 18:15 or so... roughly the same track and brightness... in looking at STSPLUS, DOS based satelite tracker written by dave ransom, we're currently on a roughly every other day viewing schedule for 'directly overhead' sightings... seems that we're in a 17:45 to 18:45 viewing time but i have seen them both much later over the past year or so... all times and angles are rough estimates... but for us amateur satelite watchers, they serve <> here's hopeing that you also get some good sightings and remember... keep looking up!! )\/(ark * Origin: (1:3634/12) .
