To : Evan Thacker From : Gord Hannah Date : Sun Dec 24 2000 09:40 pm Replying to a message from Evan Thacker 1:103/705 to All, About What can I do?, On Sun Dec 24 2000 ET> Okay, here is the deal...I am about 99.9% sure that I am an ET> alchoholic, and I want to get help. The problem is that I am an Being aware is the major step the rest is hard work. ET> Atheist, and AA, as I understand it, requires belief in God, which ET> I couldn't see myself ever doing. I'm not slamming those that do, No need too, if you have a copy of "The Big Book" there is a chapter in it that deals with this same situation. There is quite a few people that have stayed sober for many decades that are atheists. Jacques what chapter is it, I think it is either last half of 5 or 6. ET> it's just not for me. So, my question is, what other avenues can I ET> pursue and is there some way to be helped through AA as an ateist? This requires some "mind editing" on your part, keep going to meetings and when the Serenity Prayer, and Lords Prayer are recited, be part of the circle, but refrain from the recital, and substitute "Whatever" for God. The only thing is "DO NOT" let the God bit deter you from being sober. ET> This message area seems to be pretty much dead, but if anyone seees ET> this, I'd appreciate your input. Thanks. Yes the internet has taken its toll on fidonet. Hope this helps. Keep us posted. We are a fine board trying to make it better. http://www.pris.bc.ca/ghannah ghannah@pris.bc.ca Cheers!
