Subj : Silver Xpress limitations? To : All From : David B. Smith Date : Thu Jun 08 2000 10:39 am Hi. Installed the Silver Xpress door on the BBS (Maximus 3.01), and downloaded a copy of SXR version 4.5 (I think) to see what all it would do. Wanted to try that because I haven't found a reader/door combination other than Bluewave that allows me offline selection of areas. Naturally, neither the reader nor the door are registered at this point. Since the Door expects Max version 2.xx, I ran SILT MAX -2a, which I run in any case for other programs/utilities/doors that require this. After downloading an OPX packet via the Door, I tried to make offline configuration work. The menu option resulted in my being told that the funcion wasn't available, and also told that the function usually -is- available if one downloads an OPX packet via the door, which is what I did of course. The messages were readable, replying seemed to work. Other than the usual non-reg-nag stuff, all seemed to function normally. I had earlier tried the door with a QWK packet for SLMR, and while I'm tnold the QWK part of the door does allow offline configuration, it apparently doesn't like the way SLMR does conference ADD and DROP commands. Didn't work, anyway. So now, as you'll note, I'm back using Bluewave -- which has it's irritating qualities, but does allow offline configuration. Is there something in particular I'm likely to be missing in my SX setup? Also, don't I recall reading that either the door or the reader can now be registered for free?
