OOC:  I thought Colonel Mik was injured and had left the party.

Brother John makes his report.  "His Lordship (Jeffy) and I followed this
wall all around the estate, and nowhere did his Lordship find a trail of the
sword's leaving.  Unless the sword has been magiked away, it should be
within this wall."

Brother John is clearly puzzled by this turn of events.  He saw his role as
trail breaker and tracker.  Now that the sword's location has been
determined, he's at a loss.  For now the intrigues of court and nobles are
involved.  In these matters, BJ has no experience whatsoever.

"Is it possible that some retainer of this Duke of Hurthon is responsible
for taking the sword, and that this retainer has taken temporary lodgings
with the Duke of Fennlinn?  Perhaps the Duke of Fennlinn is innocent in this
matter."

"His Lordship and I did discover work being done at several places behind
the wall.  Perhaps the Duke of Fennlinn *is* responsible and is adding
fortifications to his estates.  Or perhaps the Duke of Fennlinn is in league
with the Duke of Hurthon.  I am but a simple man.  These matters or too much
for me."  Brother John goes quiet and eats a little more food while he
struggles to think this through.

"Perhaps we should go to the main gate and ask for sanctuary from Liance's
brigands.  We'll need a good reason for being out here.  Is there someplace
in this area we could be escorting his Lordship to that will seem reasonable
to the Duke?  Then we could say we were set up by Liance's brigands and have
only just escaped.  Given our condition and that that part of our story is
the simple truth, we should be able to gain access.  Then perhaps we can
discover the location of the sword and exactly whom is responsible for its
theft."

Brother John looks hopefully at Edgar and Ger.
