I didn't notice a style allowing for holds and KO's, so this must be your variation. Yes, I definitely like the idea of John being able to knock out or hold until he gets a submission (or at least wears down his opponent enough so he can get a head start to run away and hide.) > The mission, at least to the government's knowledge, is not heading into > the orcish lands. After all, one must follow the growing/harvesting seasons of the plants. Wild plants do not recognize political boundaries, so neither would John (except for the elven lands as stated above.) Are you going to allow the intelligence score to be applied to nonweapon proficiencies? I'd like John to also have the Weather Sense and Tracking proficiencies. Being able to interpret the weather would alert him when to leave the lands and seek shelter in a homestead or village. Being a proficient healer who would accept shelter and food for treatment instead of money, I envision that he's made lots of friends among the farmers throughout the kingdom. He probably has a reputation for goodness and helpfulness as well. The tracking would help the party and would be picked up by John because he would know the wildlife of the area and their habits of going to where the water and plants are (as in berries and roots, some of which would have medicinal purposes.) So he'd follow the game to find some of his herbs. Next up, to roll up some stats.
