AT> Arriving at the northern gate in the afternoon, Renee is greeted by a
AT> short line, which seems to be fast moving. With a small smile, she joins
AT> on to the end of the line behind a farmer with a wagon full of grain,
AT> waiting her turn to enter the city that she'll call home for the next
AT> little why.

Renee is walking at this time leading her horse and donkey.

AT> After a 10-minute wait, and a rather large build-up of people behind her
AT> (looks like she beat the rush), Renee enters the arch of the gates,
AT> stepping into shadow. A guard looks up at her, and whistles admirably.
AT> 'Hey, Gregory, get out here! We got a nice one this time.' Another guard
AT> comes out of the tower. 'Ooh, nice.' He slowly walks around Renee,
AT> looking her up and down. 'Nice shape. Think she's any good," he asks,
AT> palming Renee's rear.

Renee makes a mental note to avoid the guard Gregory.

AT> The other guard slaps his hand away. 'Hold off there, Gregory!
AT> I saw her first, so she's mine if she's anyone's.

Renee holds her tongue in check at that statement.

AT> Let's get her processed, first. Then we can find out where she's staying.
AT> I think she's a musician, too, and you know how picky they get when we
AT> touch *those* ones.' The guard named Gregory grunts and backs off.
AT> The first guard turns to Renee again. 'Now, sweetness, what's your name?'

Renee answers 'Renee Terris minstrel and I belong to NO ONE but myself.'

AT> He follows this up with a series of questions:
AT> 'Where are you from?'
She answers 'The Elven town of Duin`Tel`Bois '

AT> 'What brings your fine self to our fair city?'
Renee replies 'I'm here for training at the music guild'

AT> 'How long are you here for?'
Renee thinks a moment then answers 'No longer than necessary'

AT> 'Do you have a place to stay?'
She answers 'As this is my first visit I do not have a place to stay
at present'

AT> At your negative answer to the final question, he writes quickly on a
AT> small piece of paper, and hands it to you. 'This is a day pass. It's
AT> good until this time tomorrow. After that, you're fair game for the
AT> City Guard. Before this runs out, find an inn to stay at. Have the
AT> keeper sign the card, and then return here and give it to whoever's on
AT> duty. They'll give you a month pass. If you change your place of
AT> residence, you must report back here. Now get a move on.'

AT> With that, Renee begins to move through. But Gregory stops her, placing
AT> a hand on each of her shoulders. 'I'll find you later, sweetness.'
AT> With a slap to the rear, he sends her on her way.

As Renee and her animals pass Gregory, Renee shakes the donkey lead so
that the donkey will kick back maybe hitting Gregory on his backside
(Old Clint Eastwood movie scene).
