The Nighthawk had been recovered and was sitting in a storage yard waiting for me to claim it. So I got down there and brought her home. She was shamefully abused. I asked the attendant on the phone if he thought the bike was rideable and he said yes. When I got there the key got no reaction from the electrical system. I was resolving myself to pushing it home for the 3 miles or so when I noticed the seat and been wrenched up. That's where I noticed the rocker switches that were installed on the ignition wires. Getting those 2 switches set correctly got the electrical system turned on and I was able to start up and ride home. Besides the rape of the wiring harness and ripping the lock off the gas cap, they'd dumped the bike down on the right side breaking off the front brake lever. I'm still finding damage on the bike. But the forks seemed okay on the ride home. They'd also put 500 miles on her in the 9 days or so they had it. Too bad the police note didn't mention anything about suspects. I'd like to meet those responsible. So Monday I get to tell claims that the bike has been recovered and see about getting it fixed up. Going to be a busy week, I think. At least the Nighthawk is back home.
