Yoon, on one hand, I think we're finally seeing proof of my belief that there's a lot of synergy between games and discussion. On the other, big deal. Fidonet is done. It hurts me to say that since Conch is nearly as old as you are. That little fact represents a lot of memories, mostly good. However, I'd bet not more than 20 people are reading this message, and most of those use the mailing list. Fidonet no longer has the critical mass of users needed to support its echoes. The reasons don't really matter now, but the realization that the day has arrived forces me to the point where difficult decisions need to be made about the future of Conch. There are several interesting possibilities. The sad part is that many of them require termination of current operations. The OS/2 box, as it is, isn't up to supporting current technology. The idea strongest in my mind is a web site where gaming and discussion are meshed together. You've mentioned a few sites where the two are offered, but I don't know how closely the activities are integrated. I think tight integration led to things that made this echo so successful for so long. I'm interested in everyone's input. -----Original Message----- From: scott@conchbbs.com [mailto:scott@conchbbs.com] On Behalf Of yl112@cornell.edu Sent: Friday, June 30, 2000 10:45 AM To: Multiple recipients of AD&D MAILING LIST Subject: RE: anyone out there? OTOH, if the games are the *only* discourse that's going on, that's great for the gameplayers but not so good for people who aren't interested in those games. I'll try to start up a discussion or two; there are a couple of topics going around on Wolfrunners (discussion list for female sf/f writers and artists, though judging from reactions to the one guy on the list, nobody cares whether you're a guy or a girl) that are somewhat relevant to rpg worldbuilding.
