Your configuration files has to be updated which should be done by
convpcfg (part of the new portal distributions archives) if your portal
release isn't to old. From Portal 0.62 it should work without problems.

I does not have any information if portal will run better under win2000
than older win version.

You can test it very simple. If the initialization of the modem works
very slow, with some retries or portal is closed closed after 4
misstries then the problems are going on.
