Same version of Portal, but running under DOS and DESQview.

If I run under plain DOS and use Portal /c to get at it, it works fine. I 
wondered if it might be one of the tweaks that had been used to make it more 
reliable under Windows that was confusing DV - but perhaps that should be 
extended to a concern that it might be confusing other multitaskers...?

I guess you've tried feeding your DOS session more memory?

Similar, but Cyrix 150+ processor and a 20Gb drive and 32Mb RAM.
