Portal will never manipulate the modem settings. The only thing which
will be made is to send the init strings you have defined elsewhere in
Portal.

Are you sure that VFC is 33.6??? IMHO V34+ is the technical name for
this speed while VFC was something of lower speed?

I'm not sure about this.
