Subj : Knowledge of Good & Evil To : LEE LOFASO From : RICHARD M. MEIC Date : Wed Jul 25 2001 07:07 am -> RMM>I fail to see why we humans view ourselves as superior to any -> >of the other creatures on Earth. -> -> Because we are. It is man who is the dominant creature of the planet, -> knowing no rival to his reign. I think this is why I like the idea of "The Planet Of The Apes". As kid I always rooted for the apes... I thought Zeus was so cool. -> RMM>Ahhh, perhaps it is because we are able to form more complex -> >thoughts and _build_ our own tools! Okay, but I don't feel that -> >this is good enough to justify our over elevated attitudes over -> >nature. -> -> It's more than just an attitude. It's reality. Has our tools outgrown our wisdom? With our complex thought and free will are we able to keep our feelings of superiority in check? It is more than just a "fact" of superiority. It is also the feeling of superiority that seems to me to exceed the fact. I feel we need to humble up a bit, that's all. -> The viewpoint presented is based on natural law and human reason, -> not a religious text. Just because a religious text is cited does -> not make it a religious viewpoint. Any viewpoint can be expressed without biblical text and not lose its power. -> When speaking to Jews, must one use Torah? -> When speaking to Christians, must one use the Gospel? -> When speaking to Muslims, must one use the Qur'an? -> When it comes to Pagans, what religious text must one use? -> -> It appears what you wish to use is "philosophical" theology, rather -> than making arguments based on natural law and human reason. And that -> would be a religion unto itself, would it not? From the Gage Canadian Dictionary: theology n. 1. the study of the nature of God and his relations to man and the universe. 2. the study of religion and religious beliefs. 3. a system of religious beliefs. I do not wish to use theology of any kind. --- Platinum Xpress/Win/WINServer v3.0pr5 * Origin: Try Our Web Based QWK: DOCSPLACE.ORG (1:18/140) .
