Subj : Everyone's Philosopher To : JOHN WILSON From : LEE LOFASO Date : Sat Jul 21 2001 07:55 am Hello John, >LL>Dr. Adler was the editor of the 60 volume set, The Great Books of >LL>the Western World, and also responsible for the Great Books >LL>reading program. But you *knew* that... :) JW>It is my joy to have that set. It is a continual treasure, and a continual JW>reminder of how far I have yet to go :-) The Great Books of the Western World is a great collection, although I do not have the set. Wish I did, though. :) Dr. Adler was a prolific author, also being the editor of the Encyclopaedia Brittanica, and Chairman of the Board of Editors of the Encyclopaedia Brittanica. He did not limit himself to authoring books and editing encyclopedias, however, having been the Director of the Institute of Philosophical Research, and Honorary Trustee of the Aspen Institute for Humanistic Studies. Not to mention having been a professor at several universities. Truly a remarkable man, he will be missed by many. --Lee * SLMR 2.1a * I shall never get to twenty at that rate! --- Platinum Xpress/Win/WINServer v3.0pr5 * Origin: Try Our Web Based QWK: DOCSPLACE.ORG (1:18/140) .
