Subj : Knowledge of Good & Evil To : RICHARD M. MEIC From : LEE LOFASO Date : Sun Jul 22 2001 11:54 am Hello Richard, >LL>Without a point of reference, there can be no "good" or "evil". >> >KG>Yes, yes, I understand. >> >LL>In other words, in order to do "good" one must have knowledge of >both "good" and "evil", otherwise whatever one does cannot be known >by him or her as being either "good" or "evil". >> >KG>Yes, but... what do you mean by "have knowledge?" RMM>I have a chance to introduce a thought I had in a phil group a while ago RMM>that got off on a bad tangent! What makes you so sure it was a *bad* tangent? RMM>No one can have knowledge of good and evil because they are purely human RMM>ideas and don't exist as independant of human thought.. No animal has RMM>these concepts. They have bennificial and detrimental but not good or RMM>evil. Before I bring in Pavlov's dog, let me say that you have brought up an excellent point. Can you extrapolate more on that thought? Could it be that before the fall, Adam and Eve had no concept (knowledge) of good and evil prior to eating of the forbidden fruit? If so, that would seem to indicate that the knowledge of good and evil was external before they ate the golden fruit, and internal after they ate the fruit. What would be the possible consequences had Adam and Eve never eaten of the forbidden fruit? Would they still be innocent no matter what action they chose to do? --Lee * SLMR 2.1a * I wish I hadn't cried so much! --- Platinum Xpress/Win/WINServer v3.0pr5 * Origin: Try Our Web Based QWK: DOCSPLACE.ORG (1:18/140) .
