Right.  Another plus for Perl, although I am not sure about Perl and DOS.  The 
last time I checked there were too many hoops to jump through to get Perl 
working directly with DOS.  Mind you if it mattered at all to me then I'd 
probably jump through them.  I have always been a sucker for things like that.

That isn't a problem.  Just need a proper switch that can be controlled through 
whatever port, say a serial port or usb or whatever.  I used to do stuff like 
that with serial programming, except never a coffee maker.  Extremely doable 
though no matter which OS, even OS/2 could handle it.  Piece of cake.  :-)
