Are you using perl for cgi scripts with apache? That was one option for a Fido frontend I considered and played with a bit. Never got too far into that though. Sounds like a plan. Do those scripts require much editting when you move them over to the Windows box? From what I've heard there are a few differences that require attention, such as the shebang at the start of the script (#!/usr/bin/perl). JC> I remember installing perl the first time on windows.. was hard.. but JC> once i JC> got it installed, it was on like donkey kong. Right. That is what the neighbour said about it. He also was going to try a C compiler, the gcc port (cygwin?), but I haven't heard much about that so far. JC> perl is a good language for manuipulating strings and files which is JC> a big deal JC> when it comes to doing things over the web.. Right. As well as other local file manipulations. I did some things with mp3 files a few years back where perl made a real difference. I'd imagine the same script could come in handy for other file formats with a slight bit of editing. That is perl's real strength here. Doesn't take much to alter an existing script to do other various tasks as opposed to editting, compilation and debugging of source code - any language. JC> The same with perl, its so easy that i can manipulate and doing JC> anything i want JC> to with it. Very nice.. Amen. It's got my vote for sure.
