Actually, i have been around fidonet for years.  I have the latest version but
the way i do mine is the correct way it should be.

In my bbs echo config i have a prefix called fido_   then whatever the echo
name is, it follows right behind. so this sub for instance is fido_perl and
that is how it knows the difference.

It's more organized that way :) and it could possible have something to do with
the new version, but i doubt it being that i have always done mine like this.
