I think so. I started out with a suggestion from the LINUX echo to use "strings" to read raw packets and after trying this a couple of times I noticed that all the information any program needs to know was contained in the resulting text, with the exception of the "To" field in the case of the sender writing to "All" using a particular editor. I haven't noticed this anomaly other then there. So my plan was/is to filter packets through "strings" and then dump the appropriate information to a header containing only the information required, such as node numbers as node numbers rather the fields of integers that you have to string together to form a full address, and other such things. This way messages are trimmed down to the barebones minimum, or at least as close to barebones as I can currently get it. As far as the format of the header that is where I left it when I last worked on it and am now going to concentrate on that. I was thinking a gzipped text file with a delimeter to mark beginnings and ends but maybe things like the PATH could be employed instead seeing as the PATH is always at the end of a message. > Well, you have plenty of time; at least as long as people are > still using > fidonet...
