as moderator i decided ages ago, that all the scripting languages could be 
discussed here. and announcments for various modules, extensions, etc. for the

it's a semi-object oriented scripting language. i've posted my log util here 
ported from perl, to  tcl, to python.

the standard library is a bit more encompassing than perl's standard library. 
but it doesn't have anything like cpan yet.

python caveat, the python newsgroup and irc channel are an unfriendly bunch. 
you can't mention any other language, only your total conversion to python. as 
apparently it's the best language EVER and that EVER WILL BE. <snrk>

python gets compares to java mostly and there is a version of python 
implemented in java (jython).

most newcomers have a problem with python's whitespace requirement. eg a block 
of code can be defined as:

def test:
    print "this is"
    print " a block of code"


you'll noticed no {}'s the block is defined by the indent.

most people scoff at this. but it FORCES you to write 'pretty' code.
