i got up this morning and found that my 'wave checker' expect script was no
longer running. i'm not sure why it was killed (expect bug, or linux
problem). i wrote a quickie perl script that runs from crontab to check to
see if the program is still running...

this is the program if anywone is intrested:


#!/usr/bin/perl

$tpingmsg="/root/wavestats/tpingmsg";

@pid=`ps ax | grep wavestats`;
$_=$pid[0];

if (!/wavestats\/tping/)
{	
   system("mail -s \"tping restart\" root <$tpingmsg");	
   exec ('/root/wavestats/ws'); 
}

ws is:  /root/wavestats/tping.exp >/dev/null &


i'm going to add some signal code to the expect script to see if i can't find 
out when the process is getting terminated...
