mysql is available for windows also. i think it's gone opensource on that
platform as well...the web page was pretty vague...

using the clients that come with mysql will let you work with it, but
they're primitive. there's a few third party clients that take the pain out
of writing sql. but there's api's for quite a few languages.

i've can work with mysql with perl, tcl, and python, and the same on the
windows side (where i'm using access now)


oracle is a different rdmbs...there's a 'lite' version that comes with
'oracle8 for dummies' but i don't know how useful it is...

either way with perl::DBI your code would be the same, you'd just use the
oracle driver
