Subj : I am the walrus, du-du-du-dupe To : tony summerfelt From : Maurice Kinal Date : Fri Apr 15 2005 03:14 pm Hey Tony! ts> i thought most tossers used msgid's to detect dupes? So goes the theory except if MSGIDs get duped, which they can, then new messages can end up as dupes, which they aren't. However in this case that isn't the issue. ts> and it follows that any msg without a msgid won't get detected ts> if it's a dupe... Nor should it if it isn't a dupe which this message isn't ... yet. :-/ ts> lack of msgid's aside, something is misconfigured somewhere along ts> the line. Could very well be so. Either that or somebody is purposely doing this OR someone's software isn't up to snuff FTN-speaking. ts> if it turns it's YOUR software, i assume you'll fix it... For sure. I don't see how that is possible considering that I am only tossing it once and by hand. Nothing automagic at the moment while I "debug" which seems obvious from this perspective that so far it works up to Fido standards. I am just waiting before moving on to see if what is done so far is good before fancying it up any. ts> guarenteed that only one msg is leaving my sytem. Same here. If this were the source of the duping then it wouldd be because I am purposely doing it, which I am not. Once it leaves here, the rest is up to whatever Fido nodes are out there. This isn't a node and thus whatever happens between us is due to other system(s) out there and they are not subject to any criticism from me. However you being the moderator of this echo I'd imagine you'd hold the biggest sway over what goes on here. ts> so it's some where up the pipe where it's happening... I would say that is true. I believed it was just my messages getting duped until I later recieved your duped message which I "quoted" back to you. For sure I couldn't have done that since it was picked up from the outside world, the node where I get pkt's from. Thus it isn't really a MSGID problem. There is something "funny" going on, whether intentional or not. ts> is anybody else seeing my messages duped? I would appreciate knowing that answer too. So far I only saw that one which kind of makes me think that someone is goofing around with the system. Perhaps not. I am positive this message will be duped and am going to lay low for awhile after this gets sent to see what happens in the future. I may just decide to say "screw it!" as I don't see this going anywhere positive ... the script that is and not this echo. I like Perl and fully plan to carry on with it. I'll turn it on from the node here later but I don't believe that will make a difference. - Maurice --- Hacked v0.1b * Origin: Coffin Point (1:261/38.9) .
