I think my Pascal book pre-dates environment variables ;-) It looks like you're 
using getenv('ENVIRONMENTVARIABLENAME') to read them.  I'll have to try that 
with my Pascal
'compiler' (I'm using p2c, a Pascal -> C translator combined
with a simple shell script to do Pascal -> C -> Object in one fell swoop).
