Another possibility is that it is written in a version of Turbo Pascal which 
your patch won't recognize.

Try to look for strings inside the exe.
If you find this one, for example, the program has been compressed with PKLITE
PKLITE Copr. 1990-91 PKWARE Inc. All Rights Reserved

If it is, you can decompress it with pklite -x (it doesn't always work, 
however)

Anyway, if you can read a Borland copyright notice in the EXE, it's almost 
certainly NOT compressed.
