These programs are DOS programs and were compiled with Borland/Turbo Pascal. 
This compiler includes startup code that displays this behavior. The executable 
files of other pascal compilers for other platforms don't have this bug.

Then this exe file is compressed. There are programs that uncompress such 
files. One such program that I know is UNP. You can search internet with a 
search engine with a string like "uncompress exe unp" (without the quotes).
