Subj : TPPATCH fails to recognise file? To : Dan Egli From : Roelof Beverdam Date : Wed Oct 17 2001 03:38 pm Hello Dan, > I was looking over the BBS archives the other day > (http://archives.thebbs.org) and found some files I wanted. Downloaded > them no prob. However, when I tried to RUN them, I got the infamus RunTime > 200 machine (This box is QUITE over 200 Mhz). So I dug out the old > TPPATCH.EXE file. Ran it, and the result was that it said these were not > TP7/BP7 files. This problem popped up in the early days as of TP1. In the old days, Borland used a byte as a timing counter and ran into strange timing constants by then. They changes the size of the counter to be a word, so the same error disappeared until the faster CPU's (P200 & up) hit the market. There has been a version of BP with which the source of all units was supplied. This is the easiest source to find out what the timing routine looks like, so it can be disabled using DEBUG (a JMP over it will do for almost all programs - almost no one uses the Delay procedure). As the algorith hasn't changed over the years, this method will work for all versions. Met vriendelijke groeten, Roelof Beverdam --- Dutchie V3.10.11 * Origin: The Beaver's Nest (2:280/5218) .
